The project began with a very clear vision: to find a home steeped in history, in the heart of a village in the Alpilles, and transform it into a vibrant, welcoming, and warm place. Fortune smiled on us when we discovered this former 19th-century bourgeois residence, built from Fontvieille stone, with its understated elegance, solid façades, and perfectly symmetrical windows designed to let in the cool air and maximize natural light.
The renovation lasted two years, an intense and emotionally rich period. Every stone we put back in place, every wall we opened to let in the light, was a declaration of love to this house and its past. I worked closely with local artisans, as it was essential for me to respect the authenticity of the building while reinventing it to suit our lifestyle and that of our future guests.
Creating a home that reflects who I am—with a little extra soul
The interior design was a true adventure. My goal was clear: to preserve the soul of the Bastide while infusing it with my own sensibility. I wanted each room to tell a story, blending Provence with my personal travels. Materials were chosen with care: Fontvieille stone, timeworn cement tiles, and raw terracotta tiles that add character and echo the imperfect beauty of nature.
For the furnishings, I brought together several worlds. Vintage finds from local flea markets add a touch of the past, while pieces brought back from Hong Kong and Dubai create a connection to my years living abroad. I was also drawn to the wabi-sabi aesthetic, which celebrates imperfection and authenticity. Every element, every detail, was chosen for the emotion it evokes.
A place to share and reconnect
Bastide Mireio is more than just a house. It’s a haven, a jewel box, an invitation to reconnect. I wanted to create a space where visitors can truly soak up the unique atmosphere of the Alpilles: listen to the song of the cicadas, admire the ever-changing light, and share a conversation over a glass of local wine. It’s a home where you feel at ease, yet where every corner holds a surprise, a nod to Provence or to my travels.
Above all, a human adventure
This project is much more than an architectural or decorative challenge. It’s a deeply human adventure. Working with passionate craftsmen, discovering forgotten treasures in local markets, exchanging with the villagers… each step deepened my connection with this region and its people.
Today, welcoming guests to Bastide Mireio means extending that unique bond. It means offering them a peaceful escape, an immersion in a way of life that values simplicity, beauty, and the warmth of human connection. It is also an ideal starting point for exploring the region and a place for genuine exchange.
A future inspired by Provence
I see this project as a beginning. I hope Bastide Mireio becomes a landmark of the region—a place people return to again and again, like one returns to a cherished memory. More than just accommodation, I want it to be an experience, a source of inspiration for those who stay here.
Welcome to my world.
Welcome to Bastide Mireio.
